Hey Folks! The Calgary Comic Expo was back and better than ever this year– bigger, more people, more space, more exhibitors, and an extra day to boot!
This three-day con is local for us and UTTERLY wonderful. For years, people wondered if in fact Calgary could support a convention of this size and the answer is now clear: We don’t just support it, we are HUNGRY for it!
Two Gargoyles Comics, Diaperman’s parent company (www.twogargs.com), had its first-ever SMALL PRESS booth at the show, graduating from Artist’s Alley to play with the big boys (the small press big boys, but still!). We had the Diaperman Graphic Novel, Issue 13, Issue 14, and The Spanker spin-off issue available. We even offered Bundle Packs– the entire Diaperman library for a reduced price if you bought it all bundled together.
We also had a raffle– Jeremy Thew, the artist on issue 14, created a fantastic pin-up of everyone’s favorite dominatrix, The Black Whip — which was then expertly colored by Mike Rieger, the original Diaperman artist. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure interest in Diaperman went up as a direct response to her sassy presence!
Easily the highlight of the con for us, though, was the LIVE APPEARANCE of Diaperman and Sleepers! Yes, that’s right! We had the costumes professionally made and two fantastically-confident models suited up to make Diaperman and Sleepers a real crown-pleasing presence at the booth and around the convention floor. Pictures to follow– and well worth the wait!
Being Small Press for the first time was a learning curve, and for sure next time we’ll do things a little differently– but that’s the name of the convention game.
We’re also going to be taking the whole Diaperman library digital– that’s right, downloadable comics, you will no longer have to go to a convention or order through the mail to see the latest Diaperman! Right now our print distributor is working on a digital solution, and we’re totally pumped to see what they come up with!
Did you see us at the show? Give us feedback. Read our stuff and want to know more? Post a comment below! Never heard of us and want to know more? POST A COMMENT!
See you soon,
Michael
Hey folks! Diaperman (and the rest of Two Gargoyles Graphics) will be having a table in the Small Press area of the Calgary Expo under the Two Gargoyles name! The expo is from Friday June 17 to Sunday June 19, check out http://www.calgaryexpo.com for details.
Our table will be O 04, that’s Oh Zero Four, and we’re pleased to announce that DIAPERMAN and SLEEPERS will be present at the convention on Saturday and Sunday for photos and autographs! Folks, this will mark their first live appearance together! Come on down and see– totally worth the price of admission!
Thanks,
Michael

No, no, it’s nothing like THAT. Con-Version is Calgary’s oldest fan convention, and it’s happening this weekend. And Diaperman will be AT it: come by Mike Rieger’s table in the Artist’s Alley to pick up Issue 14 (only a few copies left!) or even Issue 13 or Spanker #1 or even The Collected First Series! Or just to say hi.

At the Comic Expo (which was awesome, thanks for stopping by) Michael’s nephews asked for a Black Whip T-shirt. What do you all think about this?

I particularly like it on the men’s shirts.
I may put together a Spanker design on green shirts, that would be awesome too. Right now I’m shopping around for t-shirt sites that are not expensive and have nice large imprintable areas. Any suggestions?

At the Calgary Comic Expo, having a great time, almost sold out! Get down here before all our books & shirts are gone!

Michael and I have been invited to have a table at Comic-Kazi for Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 1, to sell Diaperman comics with a bunch of other creators. Come on by! Get some comics.
Of course at the moment we’re all preoccupied with the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, which looks to be the hugest ball of cool ever. Come on by there, too! Come both places. You’re not busy.
PRESENTED for your INSPECTION: a satchel of containment! Made from the very ZENITH of the hydrocarbonic sciences, WRESTED from the PETROLEUMS and ICHORS of the very earth itself, and GUARANTEED to survive CENTURIES in even the HARDIEST of sanitary landfills!
“Please, Sir,” you ask piteously, eyes welling with hopeful tears, “what paltry sum might I proffer, that you might bestow upon me one of these magical items of containment? Even as they ascribe boundaries and limits to the very ether within them, so too do my mortal hands wish to claim ownership and dominion over even one of these blessed ur-satchels! I beg of you, Sir, if possessed be thou of a soul!”
Here I must hang my head in woe, for I cannot sell one of these at any price. However, gentle pilgrim, if you should present yourself at the table where we dispense our modest wares–at the upcoming Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, perhaps–and you should happen to purchase one of our selection of brightly-coloured printed materials, then I am happy to impart to you a glorious secret: your purchase will arrive into your hands sheathed in one of these wondrous sleeves.
But do not think that you may not put other items into the same bag! I tell you that it is not so. Pray, pay for them first, however.
We received the proof copy today and it’s good to go! Except for one or two small things that you will never notice. Find them! Fun party game.
I can’t say enough good things about Kablam. Their prices are much more reasonable than Lulu’s, and there’s a lot less setup goofiness. Lots of that is from their insistence that each page be its own flattened TIFF file, which kind of throws off my Indesign groove. Still! Can’t argue with the results.
The best thing about Kablam is that their price for a 24-page full-colour comic is dramatically less than Lulu’s price for a 24-page black and white comic. So we’ve already resized Diaperman #13 (slightly more wide, you’ll never notice that either) and we’ll put it up in the Kablam store as soon as we approve the proof copy of that. So! Diaperman #14! Written by Michael McAdam, drawn by Jeremy Thew, coloured by me. Five bucks! You can buy it online, or from us directly at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, which is the centre point of awesome for western Canada and possibly the world.
